LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2014 | THE CURTAIN RAISER

Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW), India’s leading fashion trade event, is proud to present another exciting Winter/Festive season in Mumbai. Currently in its 15th year, the 23rd season of LFW once again brings together the best talent in the field.  Today, LFW unveiled the list of 86 participating designers and 17 sponsors who have come together to present the best of the fashion industry through innovative and inclusive collaborations.

Since its inception, Lakmé Fashion Week has set new trends, strived to promote young talent, taken the lead on the digital front and has transformed India’s premier fashion week into a global platform. This season too will witness a perfect amalgamation of upcoming talent and industry’s most established names that will set an unparalleled benchmark of diversity, creativity and energy.

Highlights of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014

 Lakmé Grand Finale
As the trousseau couturier on the Lakmé Bridal Absolute Dream Team, Manish Malhotra’s collection, inspired by Lakmé Absolute Gloss, will stay true to his dramatic Bollywood persona. Manish’s collection will reflect Lakmé’s rich, glossy colors of the season in an opulent style that will take centre-stage at the Lakmé Grand Finale. Lakmé make-up expert Daniel Bauer will collaborate with Manish to create this season’s most coveted GLOSS looks on the models at the finale. Also, the much awaited makeup Masterclass by Lakmé, the highlight of this season will be featuring the Absolute Bridal Dream Team – Manish Malhotra and Cory Walia, along with Lakmé’s digital face - Sarah Jane Dias. The session will witness the biggest bridal trends for the season.

Opening show – DHL presents Masaba Gupta and Amit Aggarwal
It’s double the excitement with star designers Masaba Gupta and Amit Aggarwal as show starters at LFW WF 2014.  The show will mark, both Masaba and Amit’s debuts as opening designers and also the first time that the two will show together.

Integrating India in the Global Fashion Map
Celebrated Australian fashion design duo Easton Pearson is pleased to announce their first foray into the Indian commercial market in partnership with R and B International, India at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014. This is the first time, unique designs by Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson will be available within India, in standalone stores and throughout exclusive selected boutiques, post their showcase at LFW WF 2014.

With the rising popularity and proliferation of design trends from Pakistan, LFW is all set to showcase the best of Pakistani fashion on the Indian ramp. This is in an attempt from our side to nurture and embrace creative sensibilities from our neighbour Pakistan. POPxo.com and Hello! Pakistan have come together to present designers Faiza Samee, Rizwan Beyg, Sania Maskatiya and Zara Shahjahan, who will mark their LFW.

First Children’s Fashion Show
Hamleys in association with Barbie and Hot Wheels is hosting the first of its kind fashion show at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014, where 20 kids aged between 6-12 years from across India will get a chance to walk the LFW ramp this season. 

Jabong Stage
After receiving immense adulation from last season for its international format, the Jabong Stage is all set to showcase their fresh and edgy ideas and designs and continue to be the most sought after platform for emerging talent.

Fashion has a new address
With the new collaboration between Lakmé Fashion Week and Palladium Hotel, the upcoming season promises to transform and elevate the fashion experience for both its key stakeholders and patrons alike.

Industry stalwarts in attendance
This season will see participation by some of India’s most celebrated designers namely Manish Malhotra, Anju Modi, Varun Bahl, Vikram Phadnis, Shantanu & Nikhil, Arjun Khanna, Anita Dongre, Rocky S, Priyadarshini Rao, Sanjay Garg, amongst others.

INIFD presents Gen Next Show
INIFD will be the official knowledge partner for Lakmé Fashion Week for the eleventh consecutive season and will present the prestigious Gen Next show at LFW WF 2014. This collaboration between fashion and education is an attempt to integrate knowledge sharing among the Indian fashion fraternity.

Indian Handloom and Textile Day
The much loved and unique property that pays tribute to the rich heritage of Indian hand-woven luxury season after season. Designers like Krishna Mehta, Vaishali S, Anavila Misra, Soumitra Mondal, Pratima Pandey, and Shruti Sancheti among others will present India’s rare and finest concepts. The day will end with a stylish showcase of contemporary hand-woven Indian weaves by Sanjay Garg for his label Raw Mango.

Fashion Films
LFW Fashion Films Premiere is a special showcase of the finest works of selected film makers. This will be held in collaboration with India’s leading costume stylist and Vogue’s fashion director Anaita Shroff Adajania.

International fashion in India
This season of LFW will see the launch of international high street fashion brands - River Island and Miss Selfridge. River Island which was recently made available on Jabong.com will now showcase its Autumn/Winter collection on the LFW ramp.  Also, through an exclusive showcase on Jabong Stage, Miss Selfridge will unveil its collection in India.

Fashion Funda
The India Culture Lab, in collaboration with Lakmé Fashion Week and Bungalow 8, will host a special conversation on 8th August, 2014 to kick-start this fashion season. Parmesh Shahani, head of the Lab will talk to acclaimed designer and ex-Gen Next protégé – Rahul Mishra on life after winning the Woolmark Prize, and Rahul’s endeavour to take Indian textiles to global markets.

Speaking at the launch, Purnima Lamba - Head of Innovation at Lakmé said, “Lakmé always takes centrestage in every bride’s trousseau and this year we bring her something altogether special in the Lakmé Absolute Bridal Dream Team.  A chance for every bride to be styled by Lakmé in collaboration with Manish Malhotra – Lakmé grand finale designer and Cory Wallia – Lakmé’s makeup maestro. This is every Indian woman’s chance to make her bridal dream come true.”
